Theatre: WEEK 4

SEPTEMBER 14-18, 2020

CHARACTER

  1. Do:  Work on your monologue (see assignment in Google Classroom) - due by Wednesday 9 a.m. at the latest​

  2. Watch / Think:  Entire opening scene of Forrest Gump (CLICK HERE)

    1. What is the FIRST physical object you see?  What color is it?  What do you think it represents & why?​​

  3. Think / Find:  Find a physical object that is a representation of (or metaphor for) your monologue's character

    1. Suggestion:  Think first of the CHARACTERISTICS of the character in your monologue.  What object might have those same characteristics? 

    2. Journal:  Once you've had a chance to analyze and decide on your object, , write about what you chose as a metaphor/representation of your character and why.​

  4. Think:  How do actors make choices for HOW to play characters on stage?​​

  5. Watch:  Characterization (watch up to 2:30 only)

Journal:  Notes on Characterization (take notes under this week's date in your JOURNAL provided via Google Classroom)

  1. Analyzing your character's ____________________ & _________________________ will affect how you develop your character on stage.

  2. If you were performing a character from a written script, what are 3 things you should analyze about that scripted character?  (What "character clues" from the script should you analyze?)

  3. Write down TWO questions from the list of BACKGROUND questions provided that YOU think would be interesting to analyze about your monologue character. (Pause video as needed.)

  4. Write down TWO questions from the list of PRESENT CIRCUMSTANCES questions provided that YOU think would be interesting to analyze about your monologue character. (Pause video as needed.)

  5. People rarely believe your words alone.  Instead we tend to believe each others' ______________________ & ______________________.  (Note:  This is what we'll work on during our next class.)

 6. Prepare:  Be ready for Thursday Class. 

Come prepared with/for the following:

1.)  Bring your completed monologue (have a printed or electronic copy in front of you)

2.)  Join Meet in a place where you can stand/move around a little.  (You may want to have a chair accessible.)

3.)  Bring (or be ready to discuss) your chosen "object" (that metaphorically represents your character)
